Shootin' for the Moon

Written by Doug Goodman. April 26, 2007

How can we write a new song that has never been heard before
Same things said in many ways, change a word, spin a phrase
And how 'bout finding a new tune...shootin' for the moon

How can we paint that great painting with colors you can't buy at the store
Whatever shade or tint, whether bold or just a hint
A dab of yellow, just a touch of blue...create a whole new hue

We're told to be...in it, not of it...not on it, but above it

How can we soar like an eagle with our feet planted firmly on the ground
Is there something in between, a species yet unseen
That can rise above it all...not threatened by a fall

How can we walk on water with our feet planted firmly on the shore
Is there something we most know to disregard what lies below
Casting away the tie-downs...leaving solid ground

We're told to be...in it, not of it...not on it, but above it
How can this be, an impossibility
How can we live it if we don't understand...

Come on let us shoot for the moon, let us sing and make our own tune
Come on, cast that old palette away...a rainbow of colors, a vivid array
And while flying is a worthy quest, it's walking on water
It's walking on water...that satisfies best
