Nature of the Beast

Written by Doug Goodman. January 15, 2008.

No mountain, no ocean, no river or strait
No forest, no desert, or tectonic plate
No border or boundary, no fence or high wall
Makes any difference, no difference at all

Our hands fit together, our voices unite
Beauty and strength when we get it just right

Whatever your country, or flag you embrace
Whatever your language, whatever your race
No border or boundary, no fence or high wall
Makes any difference, no difference at all

Our hands fit together, our voices unite
Our hearts building bridges, when we get it just right

So easy to say, not so easy to do
A beautiful Ideal.....if only we knew
Is it our hearts or our minds in the way?
So many theories, who is to say?
We've all searched for answers, from the west to the east
A common lament, "It's the nature...the nature of the beast...the beast"

No matter what faith or what doctrine, I see
The beast, to be tamed, must start here with me
Erase any line and tear down every wall
Respect any difference, if there's difference at all

Our hands pull together, our minds in accord
Making our plow shears from the blade of the sword

Our hands fit together, our hearts beat as one
When your holding my hand instead of a gun

Our hands fit together, our hearts are the glue
When you're holding me and I'm holding you

We've all searched for answers, from the west to the east
A common lament, "It's the nature...the nature of the beast...the beast"

Our hands fit together, our hearts are the glue
When you're holding me and I'm holding you

"Quiero cosas mismas como tú...
Paz y felicidad para mi familia...
Para mis hermanos y hermanas...
Para todo el mundo...
Si, para todo el mundo!"

(I want the same things as you...
peace and happiness for my family...
for my brothers and sisters...
for the whole world...
yes, for the whole world!)

Don't we all want the same things? And we don't want war and violence that rips at the fabric of our hearts. Yet throughout the history of mankind, we have never lived in total peace and harmony. Is it due to "The Nature of the Beast"?
