Smell the Coffee

Written by Doug Goodman. March 5, 2009

Founded on hard work and ethics
Look how we've buckled at the knee
From pride in our products and pride in ourselves
To "what is in it for me?"

It's time we wake up and smell the coffee
There's something brewing out there

At one time it was gold, then silver
Have all our standards disappeared?
$Millions turn to $billions turn to $trillions
Big Brother's gotten bigger than we feared

We better wake up and smell the coffee
There's something brewing out there

Since forming a more perfect Union
Look how our values have decreased
The strengths of our leaders have diminished
While charges against them have increased

Now it's power and position
Where's Honest Abe, there are no signs
Just pet projects and earmarks
Pork barrels and party lines

We still claim that it's "by the people"
But look how we've lost all control
To those who have their own agenda
Who abuse and disregard their proper role

Now it's power and position
Where's Honest Abe, no sign at all
Is it going to take rebellion?
They've put our backs against a wall

They better wake up and smell the coffee
There's something brewing out here

It's time to strip them of their power
And cut the needless spending to the bone
No more free rides and no more bail-outs
Let the market solve it on its own

No more power and position
Though finding Abe is hard to do
It may take a revolution
To give the guilty what they're due.......

It may take a revolution, to give the guilty just what they are due.......
Yeah, it just may take a revolution. As far as I'm concerned it's overdue.......
